सावन शिवरात्रि - (GNCT Group Blog)

The month of Shravan is one of the most important months as per Hindu scriptures. This month is dedicated to Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva is known by many names – Maheshwar, Neelkanth, Mahadev, Rudra, Naresh etc.

Shiva is one of the deities of the Hindu Trinity or Trimurti along with Lord Vishnu and Brahma. During Shravan, scores of devotees flock to pay their respect to Lord Shiva on Mondays or Shravan Somvars. The Shivratri occurring in Shravan is of utmost importance.

Shravan, dedicated to Lord Shiva, is the fifth month as per the Hindu calendar and as per the English calendar, it falls between July & August. In 2017, Shravan begins on 10th July and ends on 7th August.

Shivratri is an important festival for all Shiva devotees, especially the Shravan Shivratri. Offering special Maha Rudrabhishek Puja on Shravan Shivratri to Mahadev will help achieve Moksha and nullify all negative Karma from life. 

From the astrological point of view, Shravan maas begins when the Sun enters Leo zodiac sign. It is said that worshipping Lord Shiva in this month is considered highly auspicious and has extreme benefits. Shravan Shivratri, i.e. Shivratri occurring in the month of Shravan is, therefore, is an equally important festival.

- Farmers pray to Lord Shiva in Shravan for good crops, rains and for the prevention of droughts.
- Unmarried women pray to Lord Shiva to seek a desired life partner. 
- Married women pray to Lord Shiva to gain good health and life longevity of their spouse. 
- Devotees pray to achieve spiritual bliss.
- To overcome debts and delays. 
- To be blessed by good health.
